A Whitsett man was pronounced dead at the scene of a traffic accident along North Church Street (US 70) late Sunday afternoon.
Burlington police and fire units and Alamance County EMS responded to the crash in the 700 block of North Church Street (US 70) at 5:48 p.m.
A 1996 Honda Civic, driven by Brandon Jeffrey Schronce, 23, had struck the rear of a delivery van; Schronce was pronounced dead at the scene.
During its investigation, Burlington police determined that three vehicles were involved in the crash. While traveling east on US 70, the driver of a third vehicle attempted to change lanes, which caused a collision with Schronce, causing his vehicle to spin, resulting in the final collision with the delivery van. Police report that they believe speed to be a contributing factor, but the investigation is still ongoing.
US 70 was closed from Richmond Avenue to Fulton Street for approximately five hours.
