The Williams boys and the Burlington Christian Academy girls were the team winners in the Alamance County Cross Country Championships on August 21 at Guilford-Mackintosh Park & Marina in Whitsett.
Easton Freeman of Williams claimed the individual boys’ title in 17 minutes, 40.60 seconds across the 3.1 miles, with teammate Max Thomas (17:48.50) next.
Third place went to Southern Alamance Brian Dehart (19:21.20) in front of Southeast Alamance’s Neil Edwards (19:24.20) and Williams’ Roman Newton (19:25.30) before the Western Alamance tandem of Harry Gammon (19:27.80) and Whitman Stiegel (19:31.90). There were 48 runners.
Williams’ 45 team points allowed it to edge Southeast (52) for the top team spot, while Southern (60), Western (66) and BCA (111) rounded out the team totals. Eastern Alamance and Bradford Academy didn’t have enough runners for team scores.
BCA swept the top four spots in the girls’ race, led by Mary Katherine Parham in 20:48.
Teammates Ellianna Bork (21:01), Blakeley Bork (21:02) and Adalynn House (21:08) followed.
Ava Childress of Williams placed fifth in 22:27 in the field of 45 runners.
BCA’s 29 points made it the team winner, with Williams (45) the runner-up followed by Southeast Alamance (60), Western Alamance (100) and Southern Alamance (115). Bradford Academy also had runners entered.
