The PGA Jr. League program for youth golf will begin next month at The Valley Golf Course in Burlington, club pro Mike Long said.
The program, which runs for seven weeks, includes a morning of golf instruction each week and another day of afternoon matches.
“It’s more of a team concept,” Long said. “I know there are people looking for this type of thing.”
It’s open to boys and girls, split into two age groups. There’s a 13-and-under division and 14-17 division. Sign-ups end July 15.
The league competition will involve keeping standings. Golfers will wear uniforms, much like leagues for other youth sports. Teams will consist of four or more golfers.
Long and Joe Vincent, who has a long history of golf instruction in the area, are the program’s coaches.
Matches will be held initially at The Valley, Long said. He said as the PGA Jr. League expands to other courses in the region, then the group based at The Valley will travel to other courses for competitions.
Participants also have range time and practice options.
The PGA Jr. League is part of a national program with spring and summer seasons.
