1st-degree murder charge: Tiff over ‘small sum of money’ ends in cousin shooting, killing his cousin

A man from Snow Camp has been charged with first degree murder after he allegedly shot another man, whom officials have described as his cousin, during a squabble over a small sum of cash.

Jeffrey Brent Lucas was ultimately taken into custody shortly after the shooting death of Erwin Paul Brown, Jr., whose body was found riddled with bullets on Thursday not far from Lucas’ home at 1504 White Drive.

According to the office of A lamance County’s sheriff, Lucas and Brown had gotten into a spat “over a small sum of money” on Wednesday evening that carried over to their fatal encounter on Thursday afternoon. A 42-year-old black male, Lucas allegedly fired several shots at his antagonist before he fled the scene of the shooting in a pickup truck.

According to the sheriff’s office, Lucas was captured “without incident” after a short search of the area. He has since been charged with one count of first degree murder and is currently being held in Alamance County’s jail without bond.
