Board of Elections open in new location

Karyn Newcomb and her colleagues at the local elections office spent more time dealing with moving boxes than ballots this week as they settled into their new headquarters at 1128 South Main Street in Graham.

Karyn Newcomb had her new digs at the Board of Elections new location at 1128 South Main Street in Graham.

The elections office formally took over these new digs on Wednesday after a year-long makeover of this one-time bank building, which had been home to Capital Bank and, later, First Horizon before the county acquired the site in the fall of 2021.

Although well over a mile from their former HQ at the corner of Maple and Pine streets, these new, more spacious quarters have been a welcome change for the county’s elections staff, who plan to hold an official house warming bash once they’ve dispensed with this year’s municipal elections.
