Burlington’s police department has announced the arrest of a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred between a van and a moped on Friday.
According to the city’s police department, Roberto Marin-Mejia was taken into custody on Saturday for his alleged role in the collision that claimed the life of 57-year-old Robert Clinton Slade of Burlington.
A 44-year-old resident of Graham, Marin-Mejia was ultimately identified as the driver of a van that reportedly collided with Slade while he was riding a moped along Tucker Street at about 12:40 p.m. on Friday.
According to the police department, Slade was pronounced dead at Alamance Regional Medical Center later that day. In the meantime, the department initiated a search for Marin-Mejia, who had reportedly fled the scene of the accident. The department was eventually able to track him down thanks to tips from the community and the assistance of Graham’s municipal police force.
Marin-Mejia has been jailed without bond since his arrest.
