Southeast wins its first baseball game

The first baseball game in Southeast Alamance’s history couldn’t have gone much better for the Stallions.

Jerry Sims smacked a triple and two doubles and host Southeast won 14-1 against Clover Garden on Monday.

Winning pitcher Aidan Amick had a double at the plate. Amick and Ayden Brown combined to strike out eight batters.

Southeast’s nine-running fourth inning helped reduce the game to 4½ innings for coach Adam Gunn’s team.

• Southern Alamance began the baseball season with a 7-5 loss Monday at Eastern Randolph. The Wildcats took advantage of seven walks, while Eastern Randolph pitchers Samuel Asbill and Cade McCallum combined for nine strikeouts.

On Tuesday, Eastern Alamance lost 22-0 at Greensboro Grimsley, while Western Alamance fell 11-0 to visiting Reidsville.

Girls’ soccer
Defending Class 3-A state champion Eastern Alamance lost its opener, falling 5-3 at Northern Guilford on Tuesday. That was the debut for Eagles coach Shawn Gibbs.

Eastern’s home opener is set for Thursday night vs. East Chapel Hill.

• Southern Alamance opened the season by defeating visiting Providence Grove 3-0 on Monday.

Postponed, etc.
On Tuesday, there were numerous postponements. That list included Southeast’s program scheduled debut in boys’ lacrosse, with a home game vs. Seaforth rescheduled until Monday night and a game that originally slated for that night vs. Durham Riverside moved to April 24.

Some area teams in various sports are scheduled to begin competitions until next week.
