A woman from Burlington has been arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting a convicted murderer who managed to escape from state custody in Orange County last week.
Jacobia Shna Crisp was ultimately apprehended at about 2:00 a.m. on Friday at roughly the same time that a three-day manhunt for Ramone Alston reached its dénouement in Kannapolis.
A 30-year-old convicted murderer who is serving life in prison for the shooting death of a one-year old child, Alston was reportedly able to abscond from state custody while on his way to a doctor’s appointment in Hillsborough on Tuesday. Alston’s escape triggered a manhunt that eventually ended in the small hours on Friday when a team of officers led by FBI agents found him holed up in a Kannapolis hotel.
Court records indicate that Crisp had helped Alston shake the escort of state correction officers who accompanied him to the doctor’s appointment. According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, the 32-year-old black female currently faces felony charges for aiding and abetting a fugitive and harboring an escaped inmate.
The sheriff’s office adds that Crisp was arrested at her home at 624 Columbia Avenue in Burlington and placed under a secured bond of $30,000 in preparation for her transfer to Orange County.
