The Valley Golf Course’s fourth hole has been the site of several recent hole-in-ones.
On Friday, course member Kirby Hays of Mebane notched an ace on a shot from 138 yards away. He used an 8-iron for his first ace at the Burlington venue.
Wayne Kessler of Burlington posted a hole-in-one on the same hole August 28. That shot, also coming with an 8-iron, was charged at 146 yards.
In July, Tim Martin of Burlington had a hole-in-one on The Valley’s fourth hole, using a 7-iron for his first ace. Also in the summer, Harrison Stuart of Burlington aced the eighth hole with an 8-iron for the 173-yard shot. It was Stuart’s second ace.
• At Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane, there were several recent aces.
Brad Dawson, a member at the club, notched his on the eighth hole, while member Carol Schmidt recorded hers on the fourth hole. Steve Burke, a worker at the course, posted an ace on No. 17.
Boteler places in top 20
Wade Boteler of Burlington tied for 17th place in the North Carolina Mid-Amateur this month at River Landing’s River course in Wallace.
Boteler shot rounds of 74, 73, and 73 to finish at 4-over 220
The tournament winner was Nic Brown of Wendell at 12 under for a four-shot victory on Brandon Grzywacz of Sanford among 132 entrants.
Evan Allred of Burlington didn’t make the cut after rounds of 83 and 78. Three-time runner-up Matt Crenshaw of Burlington withdrew.
Carolinas Senior Amateur
Lee Porter of Pinehurst was the winner of the Carolina Senior Amateur at Seabrook Island Club’s Ocean Winds course this month in Seabrook Island, South Carolina. Porter posted a three-round total of 3-under 213, one stroke ahead of Eddie Hargett of Blythewood, South Carolina.
Brad Deal of Mebane tied for 47th at 233 (75, 76, 82) among the 128 entrants. Steve Kidd of Liberty missed the cut by two shots with 159 (82, 77) through two rounds.
