An untimely concurrence of medical absences has brought a momentary halt to the routine operations of Elon’s recreation and parks department.
During a town council meeting last Tuesday, Elon’s town manager Richard Roedner acknowledged that a leg injury and an unrelated health issue have sidelined two of the three staff members in the recreation department. Roedener added that, with only the town’s recreation director still fit for duty, he has ordered a temporary draw down of the department’s activities.
“The programs for January have been suspended,” the town manager went on to inform the council during its meeting on Tuesday. “But we have plans to bring in some part-time help to continue our programs until our staff returns.”
Roedner subsequently told The Alamance News that he expects one of the employees on the department’s sick list to be back on the job in six weeks or so. The other staff member will be out of the office indefinitely.
