Cathy Sharpe Kilgore, 72, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Brookdale Memory Care on Friday, April 4, 2025.
Cathy was born on June 24, 1952 in Burlington, NC and spent most of her life in Alamance County, NC. She spent her earlier years at home with her children before spending her career providing administrative support at Alexander Wilson Elementary School and Roche Biomedical (now LabCorp). She was a member at St. Mark’s Community Church. She loved God, beach music, and the Duke Blue Devils. Cathy’s greatest joy was becoming a grandmother.
Cathy is survived by her son, Logan and wife Emily Sharpe of Elon; daughter, Corey (Sharpe) and husband Mark Akins of Huntersville, NC; mother, Jane Sharpe of Burlington; sister Linda and husband Butch Ward of Graham; granddaughters Lyla Kate Sharpe, Madilyn Akins and Sadie Akins; niece Ashley and husband Phillip Bolton of Graham; and great nieces and nephews Carson Bolton, Porter Bolton, Braxton Ware and Ava Bolton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Sharpe; and granddaughter, Kinsley Akins.
A special thanks to her caregivers who became loving friends, Mary Staunton, Penny Butler, Michelle Maynard, and Kamiya Lee, for their devotion and gentle care of Cathy during the past few years, as well as the Brookdale and AuthoraCare (Hospice) teams.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Rich & Thompson Funeral home in Burlington. The family will receive friends from 12:00–1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Bellemont United Methodist Church Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Bob Disher. Other times, the family will be at the Sharpe residence.
