Burlington Christian Academy pitcher Will Grubb threw 5 1/3 innings in the Royals’ 10-1 victory against visiting Rocky Mount Academy on Tuesday night at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
Davis Phillips drilled a two-run home run in a four-run sixth inning. The Royals improved to 14-1.
“We like how it has been going,” coach Justin Brown said. “We still got a lot of work to do.”
It marked the final time this season that the Royals will play at the stadium.
BCA opened the scoring on Gib Wirt’s run-scoring single in the third inning. Grubb notched a strikeout to escape a bases-loaded situation in the fourth.
Mark Primm’s two-run single and JD Mace’s RBI double added to the fourth-inning outburst. Cohen Payne finished on the mound for BCA.
A day earlier, Phillips, Cohen Payne and Danny Primm all drove in two runs when BCA topped Forsyth Home Educators 11-1 at Burlington Athletic Stadium. Cooper Kelly struck out eight batters in the five-inning complete game.
- Eastern Alamance is in this week’s Wilming-ton Spring Break Tournament, defeating Dixon 2-1 with Kasen McGinnis and James Wellons working on the mound Monday.
Tuesday’s 7-2 triumph against Eden Morehead came with Conner Horner and John Wittig combining on a four-hitter and Braxton Ballard and McGinnis each driving in two runs. Ballard had three hits, while Wittig and Jarrett Newell both posted two hits.
- Western Alamance lost 12-1 to Northwest Guilford in the High Point Rockers Challenge on Monday at Truist Point in High Point. The Warriors led 1-0 until Northwest Guilford posted 12 runs in the fifth inning. Then on Tuesday, the Warriors fell 13-3 to Southeast Guilford.
- Southeast Alamance held on for an 8-7 victory against Wheatmore in the ZooKeepers Classic on Monday at Asheboro’s McCrary Park. Ayden Brown, Bubba Sims and Paxton Piccini handled Southeast’s pitching.
- Williams takes a nine-game losing streak into next week’s Central 3-A Conference matchups with Orange, beginning Tuesday at home.
