Fred Brewer Roberts, Sr. 89, of Graham passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at his home.
A native of Jackson County, Alabama he was the loving husband of Carolyn Brazelton Roberts, who survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Franklin and Veda Kight Roberts; and his sister, Conelia Brazelton.
Brewer was an avid hobbyist woodworker and gardener with a natural curiosity about the world around him seeking to understand God’s natural wonders and man’s creations alike. His youth was spent roaming the forests, rivers, and hills of rural Sand Mountain in Northeastern Alabama. After finding the love of his life, Carolyn (married 70 years), he began his career in the hosiery industry.
Brewer retired from Kayser Roth Hosiery, where he worked for 45 years. He began his career in 1955 working as a hosiery production worker at Burlington Industries in Scottsboro, Alabama. He later was promoted to a position in the Burlington Industries research and development lab and relocated his family to Burlington, N.C. in 1968. Brewer ultimately came to lead the lab and retired as the Director of Pattern and Design in 2000.
During retirement, Brewer spent much of his time woodworking; turning bowls and pens, carving animals, and teaching others the enjoyment hiding inside of pieces of wood. He also had a love for gardening with many days spent “patting” the soil.
Brewer had the calling of a servant where he was a longtime member of the Burlington Lions Club and First Baptist Church of Graham. At the church, he served in whatever capacity needed.
In addition to his wife of their home, Brewer is survived by three sons, Fred Roberts, Jr., Dexter Roberts (Lynette), Art Roberts (Jamie); one grandson, Nathan Roberts (Olivia); three step-grandchildren, Hannah Guthrie (Blake), Hiliary Milam-Adams (Todd), Hunter Milam (Victoria); two great-grandchildren, Adelynn Roberts and Theodore Roberts; three step-great-grandchildren, Louis Milam, Finley Guthrie, and Kip Milam; and nieces, Sherry (Jeff) Picklesimer and Sue Brazelton.
The visitation and funeral service will be conducted on Monday, April 28, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Graham. The family will receive friends from 11:45 am -12:45 pm in the church Ministry Center followed by the funeral service in the church sanctuary at 1:00 pm. The committal service is to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to The Backpack Ministry of First Baptist Church Graham.
