A man from Mebane has been charged with numerous sex crimes after law enforcement officials allegedly traced a trove of child pornography back to his computer or smartphone.
Raymond Vincent Wargo, Jr. was ultimately taken into custody on Friday following a month’s long investigation that reportedly began in November with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, this tip was passed along to a multi-agency unit that the sheriff’s offices in Alamance and three other counties have formed under the auspices of the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The sheriff’s office recalls that this unit, which is known as Invictus, carried out a search in March that has since led to Wargo’s arrest.
The 58-year white male, who hails from 137 Carden Place, Apartment B, in Mebane, currently faces 10 felony counts of the second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. According to Wargo’s arrest warrant, each of these counts refers to an item of child pornography that he allegedly used his computer or smartphone to “duplicate.”
The arrest warrant goes on to provide graphic details about the contents of these videos, images, and screenshots. In each case, this media allegedly depicted prepubescent girls engaging in autoerotic activities or in sex acts with adult men. Some of the items even featured infants or newborns, according to the arrest warrant.
According to court records, Wargo was released from jail Monday after he posted a secured bond of $150,000.
