Southern Alamance alum Evan Sykes became Greensboro College’s career home run leader during his junior season.
The shortstop homered nine times to move his three-season total to 21, setting a record for the Division III program. He homered in three consecutive games this year.
Sykes was named to the All-USA South Conference second team. He batted .357 and drove in 48 runs in 43 games.
Greensboro reached the USA South Tournament’s championship series for the first time since 2019. Sykes was named to the USA South Tournament all-tournament team after notching 10 hits and driving in six runs across five games.
The Pride defeated Pfeiffer once and Brevard twice in the early portion of the tournament in Asheboro. Top-seeded Methodist then was the host against Greensboro in the championship series, winning both games.
Greensboro finished with a 28-16-1 overall record with a 15-5-1 regular-season league mark.
George helps Guilford College
Ethan George, a shortstop out of Williams, batted .298 with three home runs in 30 games for Guilford College.
Former Western Alamance player Aidan McCandless appeared in nine games, homering once. Former Southern Alamance player Jacob Ray pitched in 10 games for the Quakers, going 0-4.
Western Alamance alum Zach Booker, who also played collegiately at Elon, is Guilford’s head coach. The Quakers (22-16, 8-14 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) didn’t advance to the conference tournament.
