The path of greater resistance brought one group of young achievers to Burlington’s city hall this week where they were recognized on having attained the consummate honor in scouting.
The members of Burlington’s city council formally saluted these six newly-fledged Eagles on Monday in a special ceremony officiated by Isaac Young, the local district executive for Scouting America – which was known as the Boy Scouts of America until a historic name change earlier this year.
Young informed the council that these half dozen scouts are among the 27 Eagles that his district produced over the past year. He added that each of these individuals will ultimately receive a certificate of recognition from the city – which only those in attendance on Monday received directly from Burlington’s elected leaders.
The council also received a little something in return from Royce C. Allegretto, who regaled the city’s leaders with a spirited account about the moment she was awarded the Eagle.
“There were no trumpets, no band, and no confetti,” Allegretto confessed, “because it wasn’t about achieving the rank. Instead, I realized that true joy comes not from the destination but from the journey itself – the challenge of every mile hike, sitting around the campfire with old and new friends, and even standing here with you.”
