Two boys’ tennis teams from more than a quarter century ago will be among the induction class for the Western Alamance Athletic Hall of Fame this week.
Those tennis teams from 1998 and 2000 will be honored. Both of those teams won Class 2-A dual team state championships.
Individuals to be honored are multi-sport standouts Whitney Way Woolard and Candyce Latonya Sellars; former professional baseball player Brian Foster; the school’s first wrestling state champion Arthur Tillotson; former football coach Hal Capps; and former athlete Frank Haith, Jr., who has had a long career as a college basketball coach.

Way Woolard, a 2005 graduate, was a conference Player of the Year in basketball and softball. She went on to play softball at Barton.
Sellars played for the 2000 Class 2-A state runner-up girls’ basketball team and later in college at High Point. She also was a volleyball and track and field athlete at Western.
Foster, a catcher, was drafted out of Western in 1999 by the Milwaukee Brewers and had a six-year minor-league career.
Tillotson, who died in 2008, won a state championship at 129 pounds in 1973 as part of a four-year record of 77-7. He was undefeated as a senior before going on to compete for then-Elon College. Later, he partnered with Don Kernolde in professional wrestling.
Capps coached the 2007 state championship football team and directed three other Warriors teams to state finals and also coached lacrosse and track and field. He’s now director of high school relations for Elon University’s football program.
Haith played football and basketball at Western and returned as an assistant coach in the basketball program. Haith, an Elon graduate, has been a men’s basketball coach at Miami, Missouri, and Tulsa as well as numerous stops as an assistant coach. He’s entering his first season as an assistant coach at Texas A&M after the past two seasons at Texas.
The induction banquet will be held from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Westside Fellowship Church, which is located next to the high school. Inductees also will be recognized during a ceremony at Friday night’s football game vs. Cummings.
