Gabriella Moorehead of Williams won the Class 6-A East Regional girls’ golf tournament Monday at Keith Hills Golf Club in Buies Creek.
Moorehead shot 6-over-par 78 for a one-stroke edge on Southern Alamance’s Riley Bush and Harnett Central’s Marlee Allen.
Williams placed second in the regional behind Felton Grove, which won by 16 shots. Southern Alamance was third, six strokes behind Williams. Those three teams advanced to the state tournament.
Southern’s Eva Robinson (90) was 12th and Williams’ Deborah Monahan (91) tied for 13th. McKinley Metts (97) of Williams shared 24th place and Southern’s Gillian Lindley (103) tied for 34th.
- In Class 5-A’s East Regional also at Keith Hills Golf Club, Western Alamance’s Ashtyn Whitfield was 11th with 93 and teammate Layne Pittard was 17th with 105, both becoming state individual qualifiers. Eastern Alamance’s Addison Hughes (109) missed a qualifying spot by one stroke.
Next comes the state tournament Monday and Tuesday, with both Class 6-A and Class 5-A competing at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe.
- In Class 4-A’s East Regional, Graham’s Marely Torres placed 16th with 107 on Tuesday at Washington Yacht & Country Club in Washington. The Red Devils were eighth out of 10 teams, but Torres qualified for states, which will be held Monday and Tuesday at Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines.
