This year’s municipal elections have already drawn quite a few early birds to the polls in Alamance County.
According to the local elections office, a total of 3,251 people in Alamance County cast ballots during the 14-day early voting period ahead of Tuesday’s general election. This figure includes 1,902 submissions from voters in Burlington, where a heated mayoral race is underway between the city’s former mayor Ronnie K. Wall and second-time mayoral candidate Beth Kennett.
Meanwhile, the elections office has also received 888 early ballots from voters in Graham, where incumbent mayor Jennifer Talley has been fighting off a challenge from first time office seeker Chelsea Glen Dickey.
According to the elections office, this year’s total is more than twice the 1,549 ballots that voters in Alamance County cast early during the last round of municipal races in 2023. It is also substantially more than the 2,353 early ballots logged in 2021, when turnout was also driven up by competitive mayoral races in Burlington and Graham.
All of the early votes from this year’s election were cast at the county’s election office at 1128 South Main Street in Graham. According to the elections office, the volume at this location was particularly high on Friday and Saturday when poll workers reported 456 and 507 voters respectively.
On Tuesday, voting will resume at the regular electoral precincts of municipalities that have elected offices on the ballot this year between 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
