A Greensboro police officer has found herself behind bars this week after she allegedly discharged a rifle into a neighbor’s home in the unincorporated community of Snow Camp.
Morgan Lynette Hill was taken into custody on Saturday over this burst of gunfire, which reportedly came from her own home at 5411 Towhee Court at about 1:00 p.m.
Court records indicate that the 25-year-old white female had fired the gunshots from a “AR-style rifle,” striking a nearby dwelling along Gannett Court. According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, Hill’s neighbors were home at the time of the barrage, which reportedly occurred about 12 hours after a “domestic incident” at Hill’s own residence earlier that day.
The sheriff’s office went on to seize “firearms and other evidence” from Hill, whom the agency identified as a member of Greensboro’s municipal police force. The sheriff’s office proceeded to charge Hill with the felony-level offense of discharging a weapon into occupied property as well as a misdemeanor for injury to real property.
Annette Ayres, a spokeswoman for the Greensboro Police, has acknowledged that Hill’s arrest in this case has effectively ended her career with the agency.
“I can confirm that Hill’s employment with the Greensboro Police Department was separated shortly after Police Chief John Thompson was made aware of the investigation and the seriousness of the allegations,” Ayers notified The Alamance News.
According to court records, Hill has been jailed without bond since her arrest.
