Postseason schedules have changed for wrestling, swimming and diving, and indoor track and field based on Tuesday’s announcement from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
Citing widespread snow and hazardous travel conditions across the state after recent storms, the NCHSAA adjusted its calendar.
Here’s an overview of those changes:
Swimming and diving
The championships were pushed back one week to February 11-14.
Diving will be held at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh, using February 11-13.
Swimming will be contested at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Class 4-A and Class 7-A compete February 12, Class 5-A and Class 6-A on February 13 and Class 1-A/2-A/3-A and Class 8-A on February 14.
Regionals slated for last weekend were cancelled because of a wintry weather forecast. State qualifiers were determined based on past qualifying results and other metrics.
Wrestling
The start of dual team state playoffs was pushed back again, now set for next week. Among the changes, the dual meet state finals won’t be completed until after the individual state tournament.
In Class 5-A, Southeast Alamance is the No. 9 seed in the East Region with a first-round matchup vs. eight-seeded Rockingham County at Croatan, which holds the No. 1 seed and meets No. 16 seed Northside in the first round.
Southern Alamance is the ninth seed in the Class 6-A West Region, facing eighth-seeded Asheville Roberson at St. Stephens, which is top seeded and matching up with No. 16 seed North Iredell.
The first and second rounds for dual meets will be completed between February 10-12. Those are contested on one day, though the date now might vary based on participating teams at each site.
The regional semifinals and finals, also a one-day event, will be held February 16, 17 or 18, again with flexibility on which date is used. The finals will be February 22 – a Sunday – in Greensboro, with those coming the day after the individual state tournament ends.
At this time, there are no changes to boys’ individual regionals or state tournament.
- Girls’ wrestling individual regionals were to be this week and are now listed for February 10-12. Southeast Alamance is the host for the Class 5-A East Regional.
Indoor track and field
The state meets at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem were moved to February 11-12 and February 18-19.
Class 1-A/2-A and Class 3-A will compete February 11, while Class 6-A and Class 4-A will go February 12.
Class 7-A and Class 5-A moved to February 18, while Class 8-A is February 19.
