Alamance-Burlington school board members voted Monday night to approve several contracts for software, facility improvements, and other services that will be provided during the upcoming 2026-27 fiscal year.
As part of the consent agenda for their latest monthly meeting, school board members voted unanimously, 7-0, to approve seven contracts that are estimated to cost approximately $34.8 million during the fiscal year that begins July 1.
The “consent” agenda is reserved for non-controversial items that school board members typically approve in a single motion.
The $34.8 million price tag excludes, however, a six-year contract with Arizona-based Imagine Learning for software, coursework, and other digital instructional tools for English Language Arts curriculum in the elementary schools.
The contract with Imagine Learning will cost $2.6 million over a six-year term that runs through June 30, 2032, based on the contract that the board approved Monday night. The funding source wasn’t specified in the meeting materials or the contract.
School board members also approved a contract for approximately $1.2 million with Tyler Technologies to modernize its school business (accounting and other finance-related operations) system.
Tyler Technologies also developed the state’s online court case management system several years ago.
ABSS will pay about $500,000 (43 percent) for the contract with Tyler Technologies, while the remaining $670,466 (57 percent) will be funded through the North Carolina Department of Instruction (DPI), based on a breakdown of the cost-sharing arrangement that was included with the contract.
The contract with Tyler covers the costs for implementation of updated software, hardware, and subscriptions/licensing for the upcoming 2026-27 fiscal year that begins July 1, based on the agreement the board approved Monday night.
The agreement will automatically renew for an additional one-year term at the existing rate, which is guaranteed through April 2027, based on the company’s statement of work for ABSS.
School board members also approved the following contracts as part of their consent agenda Monday night:
- A county-funded contract with Stewart Physical Therapy of Burlington to continue to provide high school athletic trainers at the seven ABSS high schools for a total cost of $1.8 million over the next three fiscal years ($572,560 for 2026-27; $589,864 for 2027-28; and $607,756 for 2028-29);
- A county-funded, one-year contract with Republic Waste for trash and recycling services, at a cost of for $229,365 for the 2026-27 fiscal year;
- A county-funded, one-year contract with Melgar Facility Maintenance (MFM Industries) for custodial services, at a cost of $5.7 million for the upcoming fiscal year;
- A county-funded, one-year contract with Pace Analytical Services of Kernersville for monitoring and testing wastewater and well water systems at schools, for a cost of $204,540 in 2026-27;
- Finally, the school board approved a contract amendment with Greensboro-based Samet Corporation for the construction of HVAC system upgrades at Graham High School, at a guaranteed maximum price of $4.2 million, to be paid through county capital improvement plan (CIP) funding for the school system’s big-ticket facility projects.
Substantial completion for the HVAC system upgrades at Graham High School is currently targeted for September 30, 2026, under the terms of the contract with Samet.
