Western Alamance freshman golfer Lathan Cobb placed ninth in the Class 5-A state tournament.
Cobb shot 4-over-par 147 for two rounds at Sapona Golf Club in Lexington.
There were separate Class 5-A and Class 6-A state tournaments held May 11 and 12 on the same course.
Cobb had rounds of 74 and 73 to lead the Alamance County qualifiers. Senior Lincoln Newton of team champion Oak Grove was the individual winner with 135 (68, 67).
Also in Class 5-A, Southeast Alamance junior Trevor Fowler tied for 13th place at 152 following rounds of 75 and 77.
Eastern Alamance senior Max Breler was in 22nd place at 159 with rounds of 83 and 76.
Class 6-A
Southern Alamance junior Kaden Long shared 13th place with 149 following rounds of 75 and 74.
Williams senior Tim Klein ended up tied for 32nd at 162 (82, 80).
Southern senior Landon Linch was in a three-way tie for 36th with 164 (77, 87).
Fayetteville Sanford won the team title with a score of 558 that reflected the lowest 36-hole team score in North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship history. It resulted in a 31-stroke winning margin. Northern Guilford freshman Jack Weston’s 138 was enough for medalist honors and a one-shot victory.
