Mr. Robert Earl Loy, Jr. (Earl) of Burlington passed away on June 30, 2026 after months of declining health.
Earl was born on April 15, 1930 to Robert Earl Loy, Sr. and Ida Holt Loy, both deceased. He was the husband of 66 years to Pauline Wade Loy who predeceased him in 2015.
Earl was both a builder and farmer by trade, having built many homes and sowed/harvested many fields in Alamance County throughout his career. During his leisure time, he enjoyed outdoor activities and spent many days hunting and fishing.
Earl was also a member of many Southern Gospel groups, including the Layman’s Quartet, Kingsway Quartet, and the Visionaires and enjoyed spreading the Gospel thru song at various venues throughout North Carolina and surrounding states.
Earl is survived by his sons, Steven Loy, Sr. (Bonnie) and Michael Loy (Sandra); daughter, Teresa Farrell (Roscoe); his grandchildren, Steven Loy, Jr. (Christie), Erin Duckworth (Steven), Heather Arico (Brian), Brittany Melville (Sean), Jacquelyn Loy, Megan Saulsbury (Cory), and Cody Farrell (Liv); seven great grandchildren; and sister, Elizabeth Loy Combs (Ted).
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Robert Edward Loy (Sarah Frances), James Harold Loy (Monte), Dewitt Talmadge Loy (Doris), Warren Harding Loy (Musette), Donald Alexander Loy (Gladys), and Wade Columbus Loy (Millie).
The family would like to express their deep appreciation of the in-home care provided by Vanda, Ruth, Bevonda, Asia, Cindy and the hospice nurses during Dad’s illness.
A funeral service will be conducted at Friendship Church on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 12:00 noon with the family receiving friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
