Ready, set. . . vote; early voting begins today through Oct. 31

The Elmira Community Center at 810 Wicker in Burlington is one of five polling places that Alamance County’s board of elections has mobilized for early voting ahead of November’s general election.

Also activated for this two and a half week period are the Graham Recreation Center at 311 College Street in Graham, the Kernodle Senior Center at 1535 South Mebane Street in Burlington, the Elon South Gym at 329 South Antioch Avenue in Elon, and the Mebane Arts and Community Center at 633 Corregidor Street in Mebane.

Long-time election worker Staehle Whitson knew some assembly would be required to get the Elmira Community Center ready for the start of early voting on Thursday.

Although only three of these sites were in use ahead of the primaries in March, the management of so many early voting locations doesn’t seem to have exasperated Dawn Hurdle, the county’s election director.

“We always do five sites during Presidential Elections,” she said in an interview Tuesday, “and yes, it’s hard to staff them. But it’s no harder than usual.”

Area voters can visit any one of these five sites to complete their ballots from Thursday, October 15 until the early voting period ends on Saturday, October 31. All five locations will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays during this stretch. Voting will also take place from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24; from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25; and from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31.
