Carl A. Sichi entered into eternal life on October 2, 2026 at the age of 91. He was born Christmas Eve 1934 in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania to the late Reno and Clara Sichi.
Carl married his first wife, and mother of his children, Maryanne when he was 20 years old. He then married JoAnn in 1979, to whom he was married for 40 years until her passing in 2019. Carl was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Burlington.
Carl was working in Sales and Construction for the majority of his life, working for Admiral Homes, E.F. Hauserman Co., Roanoke Engineering, and Donn Corporation over the years. He was living in several states throughout his career, until he settled down in Mebane in 1985, so his wife JoAnn could be closer to her parents, and he started his own construction company, DPI, Inc. at that time. Carl eventually retired in 2000 but found himself bored soon after, and started working part-time at MacThrift Office Furniture, and Sherwin Williams Paints, which he enjoyed a lot. Once he ‘really’ retired, he concentrated on volunteering, and has been active with the American Legion in Burlington. He was presenting ‘flags for first graders’ for several years, and helped run the weekly bingo. While Carl’s hobbies changed over the years, he enjoyed playing poker, and always loved to read and learn more. In earlier years, he enjoyed playing golf, and was a lifetime fan of the Duke Blue Devils and Pittsburgh Steelers. Carl loved shooting, and won several trapshooting contests. He enjoyed working in his yard, and was blessed to be able to mow his own grass until he fell ill in September of this year.
Carl loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all his heart, and this feeling was mutual. Carl will be missed by his son Robert Sichi and wife Anne of Richmond, VA, daughter Amie Gwaltney and husband Jon of Richmond, VA, David Sichi and wife Sylvia of Mebane, NC; six grandchildren, Adrian Hall, Robbie Sichi, Jessie Gwaltney, J.J. Gwaltney, Romy Sichi, Josh Sichi, and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on Friday, 10/23/26 at 3PM, and burial will follow in Richmond, VA at a later date.
