The Alamance-Burlington school system has named the 2022 principal of the year and assistant principal of the year.
Hawfields Middle School Principal Greg Hook was named the ABSS Principal of the Year. A 25-year veteran educator, Hook began his career as a teacher at Williams High School and has served as the principal of Hawfields Middle School for the past decade.
Hawfields Middle ranked third among all North Carolina public schools for academic growth during the 2021-22 school year, according to ABSS.
Eastlawn Elementary School assistant principal Tameka Cloud has been named the 2022 ABSS Assistant Principal of the Year. Cloud is in her 27th year with ABSS and has served the past nine years as the assistant principal at Eastlawn Elementary School.
Each school year, the principal and assistant principal of the year are nominated by their peers and voted on by the ABSS administration. Hook will go on to represent ABSS in a statewide competition for principal of the year.
