Alamance-Burlington schools will be closed Tuesday, it was announced Monday night by the school system.
“Due to the sub-freezing temperatures forecast for tonight through mid-morning tomorrow and the potential for icy patches on roads, campus sidewalks, parking lots and steps from today’s precipitation runoff, ABSS will be closed for students and staff on Tuesday, January 4,” read the notice sent by public information officer Jenny Faulkner at 10:45 p.m.
School officials had received blistering criticism on social media for having planned a regular school day on Monday when other school systems to the east and west (Orange County and Guilford County) were closed.
Additionally, three elementary schools had to be dismissed early because of having no power.
