Power outages send students home early at three elementary schools in the midst of snow

Students at three elementary schools were sent home early Monday morning due to power outages at those schools.

With just 15 minutes notice, at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Alamance-Burlington school system officials announced that students at the three elementary schools – Pleasant Grove, Smith, and Sylvan – would be dismissed early, at 10:30 a.m.

ABSS elementary schools typically operate from 7:50 a.m. until 2:35 p.m. on school days, under the academic calendar for the current 2021-22 school year.

Early dismissals had not been announced for other ABSS schools by lunchtime Wednesday.

Nearly 1,000 power outages had been reported in Alamance County as of 12:00 noon on Monday, according to Duke Energy’s online power outage map.  For updates and more information, visit: https://outagemap.duke-energy.com/#/current-outages/ncsc
