Alamance-Burlington schools have joined many other school systems across the Triad and Triangle that have announced closures for Friday, September 27 in light of the outskirts from Hurricane Helene sweeping the area.
An announcement from the school system: “Due to predicted high wind gusts and the potential for flash flooding and tornadoes from Hurricane Helene, all ABSS schools and district offices will be closed on Friday, September 27. This closure applies to all ABSS facilities and activities.”
In addition to ABSS, many schools to the east and west in Chapel-Hill/Carrboro, Orange County, Chatham County, Guilford County, Durham County, Wake County, will also be closed.
Caswell County and Person County schools will be closed, but will have a “remote learning day.” Randolph County schools will be closed, with teachers having an “optional work day.”
Among county charter and private schools:
- The Burlington School will be closed.
- Burlington Christian Academy will be closed.
- Clover Garden School will be closed.
- Hawbridge School in Saxapahaw will be closed.
- River Mill Academy will be closed with an “optional teacher workday for staff beginning at 10:00 a.m.”
In addition, Alamance Community College will be closed, with “all classes [to be] conducted remotely.”
