There are adjustments for football games involving Alamance County teams scheduled for this week.
With one exception, games have been moved up a day to 7:00 p.m. Thursday because of anticipated weather concerns Friday. Graham’s Friday game at Cummings has been reset for 7:00 p.m. Monday because of this week’s death of Cummings team member Malik Mebane. [See separate story in this edition.]
Undefeated Southeast Alamance has the week off. Here’s a look at the games:
Eastern Alamance at Western Alamance
Western (4-1, 1-0) has a four-game winning streak going into its Central 3-A Conference home opener.
Eastern (0-4, 0-0) has faced a rigorous schedule. Its four opponents to date – Eastern Randolph, Southeast Alamance, Northern Guilford and Reidsville – hold a combined 18-0 record.
Eastern has won the last three meetings with Western, matching its longest winning streak in the series (also 2013-15) across the past two decades. In the last 13 matchups, the Eagles hold a 7-6 series edge.
Orange at Williams
By winning last week at Southern Alamance, Williams (4-1, 1-0) has started its league slate with a victory for just the third time in eight years. All three of those league-opening victories have come across a four-season stretch.
Williams has won the past four seasons against Orange (1-4, 0-1), including 28-3 last year.
Southern Alamance at Cedar Ridge
Southern (2-3, 0-1) is the defending Central 3-A Conference champion, but already is in a hole. The Patriots will enter a game with a losing record for only the third time since 2017. The last time this happened came in 2022, also following a loss to Williams.
Cedar Ridge (0-5, 0-1), which has scored a total of 24 points this season, is coming off a 65-0 loss at Roxboro Person in its conference opener.
Graham at Cummings
Cummings (4-1, 3-0) can move into sole possession of first place in the Mid-Carolina Conference with a victory because Southeast Ala-mance has the week off.
The Cavaliers have won the last six games in the series between neighbors.
Cummings posted shutouts the last two years and four times in the current series winning streak against Graham (0-4, 0-2).
