Competing in the Junior-Senior Division, Yakola competed in five of the seven events with a pair of first-place finishes.

His victories came in January at The Club at 12 Oaks in Holly Springs and in February at Longleaf Golf and Family Club in Southern Pines. He also had a tie for fifth place, a tie for sixth place, and a tie for 11th place.

Those results put him at the top in the points race with 277½ points in the division. Second place with 260 points was Noah Yeary of Greensboro. There were 86 entrants.

Miles Pope of Graham was 25th, Braeden Moser of Graham tied for 27th and Bailey Hogan of Graham placed 31st,  while Southern Alamance golfer Lacy Carroll tied for 44th. Hogan and Moser are Burlington Christian Academy students.

The 36-hole stroke-play competitions were held from December through February.

The 47th North & South Junior Amateur, which is for ages 18 and younger, will be held June 29-July 2 at Pinehurst No. 2 and Pinehurst No. 8.

Yakola, a junior from Mebane, also plays soccer and basketball at ACS.
