Here are highlights from recent spring sports competitions for area high schools:
Softball
Eastern Alamance won twice this week in Central 3-A Conference games, topping host Cedar Ridge 8-4 in eight innings and pounding visiting Roxboro Person 17-1.
Rachel Byrd and Edie Stewart both had three hits, with Stewart knocking in four runs and Byrd scoring three times in the Cedar Ridge game. The Eagles scored three times in the top of the seventh to tie.
Against Roxboro Person, Kayden Manning, Brylea Warren, and Olivia Foster homered. Manning drove in five runs and Foster knocked in four.
- Western Alamance opened Central 3-A Conference play by defeating visiting Williams 18-0 on Tuesday. Kyndal Wilborn drove in three runs in the 2½-inning game.
- Southern Alamance won its first three games before Tuesday’s 11-2 non-conference loss at Randleman. Last Friday, the Patriots defeated visiting Southeast Alamance 11-8 despite Katie Lloyd’s home run.
- Southeast Alamance had a two-game winning streak snapped with a 22-13 loss to visiting North Moore on Tuesday.
In Monday’s 12-10 victory at Orange, Gracyn Lee drove in three runs. Last week in a 16-2 Mid-Carolina Conference victory at Northwood, Tatum Shelton struck out 11 batters in four innings and Ava Wheeley and Brooke Hardister homered.
Baseball
Southeast Alamance won 5-3 in Tuesday night’s Mid-Carolina Conference game against visiting Northwood, which is in its first season under former Williams coach Brent Haynes.
That outcome pushed Southeast to a 3-0 record after two triumphs last week against Chatham Central.
- Eastern Alamance went 2-1 last week, splitting two meetings with Greensboro Grimsley and defeating visiting East Chapel Hill 1-0 on Kasen McGinnis’ fourth-inning home run.
Conner Horner pitched five innings and John Wittig threw two innings in the combined three-hitter vs. East Chapel Hill.
- Southern Alamance is 3-1. After a 4-2, 10-inning home loss to Seaforth, the Patriots won home matchups against Clover Garden by 15-1 and Chatham Charter by 10-0.
Against Clover Garden, winning pitcher Nathan McNeal struck out eight batters in four innings and at the plate he had three hits, including a home run. Kaden Parker scored four runs.
Mark King homered and Parker was the winning pitcher against Chatham Charter.
- Western Alamance went 3-0 last week, capped by a 2-1 home victory against Reidsville in a rematch of the season opener.
- Burlington Christian Academy began with three consecutive victories, including a 5-4, nine-inning decision at Northwest Guilford to open the schedule with Cooper Kelly and Cohen Payne handling the pitching.
The Royals topped Cedar Ridge 7-4 and Greater Vision Academy 21-0. Lofton Gonzalez and Kelly both had three hits in the Cedar Ridge game.
Girls’ soccer
Western Alamance topped visiting Southeast Alamance 9-0 on Tuesday. The game was moved up one day because of weather concerns, with the result pushing Western’s record to 3-0 after road victories against Greensboro Page by 4-0 and Northern Guilford by 3-2.
Callie Athas and Alison Thomas both had two goals against Greensboro Page. Athas scored two goals and Kayley Lee had one goal and two assists in the Northern Guilford game.
- Southern Alamance’s 3-0 record includes a 6-2 victory at Southeast Alamance, with Emerson Euliss and Cayla Shaw scoring three goals apiece. The Patriots won 7-1 on Monday at Southeast Guilford.
- Southeast Alamance won 1-0 at Asheboro on a second-half goal Monday.
Boys’ lacrosse
Williams is 2-2 with home victories against Greensboro Grimsley and Southeast Alamance and road losses to West Forsyth and Orange.
- Eastern Alamance won 10-7 against visiting Voyager Academy on Monday with four goals and two assists from Nathan Robinson and three goals and one assist from KJ Maynard.
- Southern Alamance had a season-opening 18-3 victory last week at Western Guilford with Talan Cook, Tustin Johnson and AJ Ray all scoring three goals.
- Western Alamance is scheduled to open the season under new coach Cameron Davis on Thursday night against visiting Eastern Guilford followed by Friday night’s home game vs. Eastern Alamance.
