Gibsonville aldermen, who have already filled one vacancy last fall due to the untimely death of a board member last summer will soon be faced with filling another one – as the result of a member’s marriage and plan to move to Virginia.
During last Monday’s Gibsonville board of aldermen meeting, alderwoman Yvonne Maizland announced that she will be moving to Virginia and stepping down from her role as Gibsonville’s only female member of the board of aldermen. Over the Christmas holiday, Maizland announced, she had married Jack Sturdevant of Virginia; the two will be closing the distance on their long-distance relationship and moving in together in his home state.
Sturdevant didn’t give a timeframe for when she would be moving and resigning, but she did share that she and her husband are currently working on her home to prepare to put it on the market.
Sturdevant’s term as an alderman began in 2019 and is set to end this year.

“I’m going to keep the mayor and the town manager fully updated as to my progress so that this will be a very smooth transition,” Sturdevant said.
Mayor Leonard Williams, town Manager Ben Baxley and the other members of the board shared their congratulations; the board will be responsible for finding a replacement for Sturdevant after her resignation.
