Local track & field coaches lead county’s Boston Marathoners

Stephen Stiegel, a cross country coach and assistant track and field coach at Western Alamance, had the best time of any Boston Marathon entrant from Alamance County in Monday’s 26.2-mile race.

Stiegel, 46, clocked a time of 2 hours, 57 minutes, 20 seconds. He was 254th in the 45-49 age group for males. He’s an English teacher at Western.

Graham’s Carmen Bork, an assistant track and field coach at Burlington Christian Academy, was 69th in her age group for females. The 44-year-old finished in 3:07.33.

Burlington’s Matt Sommer, fitness director at Alamance Country Club, finished in 3:08.17. The 47-year-old completed his 10th Boston Marathon.

Other finishers from the county included Graham’s Xiaobin Qiu (3:11.22, 55 male), Graham’s Mario Corredor (3:14.57, 60 male) and Mebane’s Suzanne Woodward (3:40.54, 35 female).
