The Theresa Hooks Memorial STEM Scholarship was formed to carry on Theresa’s dedication to helping those in Mebane and the surrounding communities. As a chemistry and math major at Meredith College, Theresa was a strong advocate for ensuring that all students have access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) knowledge and skills. The late Theresa Hooks, who died in 2017, was the wife of long-time Mebane city councilman, now mayor, Ed Hooks.

This endowed scholarship will not only help to reduce the financial burden of the ever-increasing college tuition, but will hopefully raise awareness of the importance of fostering a strong, STEM-capable workforce. The scholarship is given to a graduating senior at Eastern Alamance High School that is pursuing a STEM field of study at a four-year university. Half of the award total is paid to the university for the fall semester and the other half for the spring semester of the student’s freshman year.

Awardees will be notified by phone and presented the award at the Eastern Alamance Awards Day Ceremony.
