Burlington Christian Academy boys’ swimmer Owen Nye won one championship and set a school record in another event in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Division III state meet last week at Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Nye, a senior, won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute 43.27 seconds, barely ahead of Wayne County Day School’s Eli Edmondson (1:43.46).

Nye was second in the 500 freestyle in 4:40.77, just behind Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill’s Matt Cinque (4:40.56). Nye’s time was a BCA record.

The BCA 200 relay of Nye, Chase Newell, Austin Kinney, and Davis Faucette was seventh in 1:48.75.

The Royals were eighth in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:10.18 with Nye, Newell, Nathan Garrigan, and Faucette.

Newell finished 17th in the 200 freestyle (2:18.45) and 19th in the 100 freestyle (59.01).
For The Burlington School, eighth grader Shelby Kistler placed third in the 100 freestyle (56.42) and she was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.13) in girls’ races.

The 400 freestyle relay from TBS placed sixth in 4:46.73 with Alex Eguren, Liza Self, Lilly Angyal, and Kistler. Also for the Spartans, the same quartet placed 10th in the 200 medley relay (2:28.68).

Nye plans to swim for Villanova next year.
