After more than two years as executive director of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, Burlington’s Trip Durham said it was best to allow someone else to handle those responsibilities.
Durham said he’ll turn his focus back to his sports consulting business.
“The internal and external operations of the Hall are now on solid footing,” Durham said. “As the Hall enters its seventh decade, I conveyed to the board of directors in the second half of 2024 that it was time for an experienced fundraiser to lead the organization, someone whose career pursuits have garnered the experience necessary for the Hall to take its next great step. . .The right thing for me to do was to clear the path.”
Johnny Moore was hired this month to replace Durham. Moore is a veteran sports administrator, largely with ties to Duke in marketing and as a radio and television producer, and is a long-time member of the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame’s board of directors. He also has professional ties to Guilford College, his alma mater, and East Carolina.
N.C. Sports Hall of Fame board president Rick Webb credited Durham “for his outstanding leadership.”
Durham, who spent 14 years in athletics administration at Elon, founded 2D Consulting, LLC, in 2010. He continued with that endeavor, which involves work with colleges, conferences and sports properties, on a more limited basis after taking the role with the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame in the fall of 2022. He said he’ll ramp up his consulting operations again.
“I miss my business,” he said. “There’s trade-offs in life.”
Durham remains the public address announcer for Duke football and men’s basketball and for some Atlantic Coast Conference events.
