A Charlotte-based appliance retailer has announced its plans to open a new store in the former Badcock location at Rosewood Village shopping center along South Church Street in Burlington.
Queen City Appliance recently announced its plans to occupy the former Badcock storefront at 3356 South Church Street but has not yet given a grand opening date.
Burlington is among seven cities in North and South Carolina where Queen City has said it plans to open new stores. New Queen City locations have also been announced in Durham, Goldsboro, Fayetteville, Rockingham, and Aiken, South Carolina.

Founded in 1952 as a TV repair business, the company also has existing locations in Charlotte, Greensboro, Monroe, Morganton, Pineville, Salisbury, and Winston-Salem, as well as Columbia, South Carolina.
In addition to its staple appliance and electronic inventory, Queen City carries grills, furniture, and mattresses. The company estimates that it currently has about 200 employees.
Along with all other Badcock locations across eight states, the Badcock furniture store in Burlington closed this fall after parent company Conn’s HomePlus entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings this summer.
The Conn’s HomePlus store at 3121-A Garden Road in Burlington also closed at the end of October, according to the company, which announced its plans to close about 170 Conn’s stores across 15 states as part of its bankruptcy restructuring process.
Conn Appliances also closed its distribution center at 1017 Corporate Drive in Mebane on October 31, resulting in 46 layoffs, according to the North Carolina Department of Commerce. Badcock had continued to operate the distribution center but had sold its facility at the N.C. Commerce Park in Mebane BCDC Portfolio Owner, LLC in Chicago, Illinois in June 2022 for $42.6 million, according to Ala-mance County’s Register of Deeds.
