County workers, sheriff’s deputies, and four inmates were on hand Wednesday afternoon (April 7) to clean up around 1940 Barbee Street. See immediately below.
Alamance County had reached an agreement with Donna Capps, the daughter of the elderly homeowner Grace Barbee, regarding the removal of the junk on the grounds of her mother’s home at 1940 Barbee Street, county attorney Clyde Albright told the newspaper recently.
The county attorney added that, under this deal, the county won’t pursue a criminal case over the illegal junkyard, which the local health department has previously cited for rodent infestations and illicit discharges of sewage.
A four-man crew of inmates was on hand Wednesday (April 7) to assist with the junk removal. Trucks from both the county and the city of Burlington were also on hand to help haul away junk from the residence, which is located just outside of the municipal limits of Burlington.
UPDATE: a week later, Wednesday, April 14, there are still two dumpsters nearby. While much has been cleaned up and/or removed, more remains.
