Craig Turner was sworn in as Alamance County’s newest county commissioner Monday morning by Clerk of Superior Court Meredith Edwards.
Turner, a Republican, was chosen by the executive committee of the local Republican Party on January 21 to fill out the two remaining years of Amy Galey’s term. Galey was elected in November to the N.C. state senate and was sworn in to her new post on January 1.

Turner will face voters in 2024, as will vice-chairman Steve Carter. The current board of commissioners is comprised of five Republican members. The last Democrat elected was Bob Byrd in 2014; Byrd was defeated in his re-election bid in 2018 and in his comeback attempt in 2020.
