The Cummings girls and the Southeast Alamance boys were the team champions in last Thursday’s Mid-Carolina Conference track and field championships.
In girls’ competition, D’Anna Cotton of Cummings won the 100-meter hurdles (13.87 seconds), 300 hurdles (45.24), long jump (19 feet, 6½ inches), and triple jump (41-0).
The Cummings 400 relay of Nazaiah Hatfield, Samira Lennon, Honesti Trollinger, and Diamond Moore won in 48.80 seconds
The Cavaliers claimed the 800 relay in 1:47.91 with Hatfield, Lennon, Kennedy Fuller, and Diamond Moore in 1:49.91. Cummings used Trollinger, Lennon, Hatfield, and Leyah Whitaker to win the 1,600 relay in 4:24.00.
Other girls’ winners included Southern Alamance’s Laila Darden (100, 12.28), Western Alamance’s Jada Webb (200, 24.95), Southeast’s Jocalyn O’Neill (800, 2:43.99), Western’s Kennedy Ramsay (1,600, 5:56.94), and Western’s Eleanor Wheatley (3,200, 13:28.21).
Western’s 3,200 relay of Sarah Younger, Wheatley, Ramsey, and Janiyah Moore won in 11:32.00.
Williams’ Desirae Cheek won the high jump at 4-10½. The throws winners were Cummings’ Whitney Griffis at 33-0 in the shot put and Southeast’s Annaya McAdoo at 92-4 in the discus.
Southeast’s Elizabeth Thomas cleared 7-6 as the lone entrant in the girls’ pole vault.
Cummings had 147¾ points, with Southeast next at 125¾ and followed by Western (110½), Southern (59), Williams (43), Eastern (13½), Graham (11), and Roxboro Person (2½).
Boys’ events
Six schools had at least one boys’ individual winner, with Williams’ Max Thomas placing first in three races.
Thomas captured the 800 (2:03.66), 1,600 (4:43.66), and 3,200 (10:30.36).
Also on the track, Southeast’s Marquis Burnette (100, 10.85), Western’s Kylon Richardson (200, 22.49), Eastern’s Dashuan Horace (400, 50.60), Southern’s Eli Sharpe (110 hurdles, 16.43), and Graham’s Kamare Snipes (300 hurdles) were winners.
In field events, Southern’s Kristian Brown (high jump, 6-0), Southeast’s Antonio Williamson (22-6), Eastern’s Sammy Raphael (triple jump, 44-5), Southeast’s Drew Easter (shot put, 47-2), and Southern’s Brantley Messick (discus, 141-8) won.
Southeast claimed the 400 relay in 43.05 with Burnette, Joseph Gibbs, Jatay McMillian, and Isaiah Tumey. The Stallions posted a winning time of 3:36.66 in the 1,600 relay with Tumey, Tyrone Burton, Braxton Palmer, and Alex Ruiz.
Eastern’s 800 relay won in 1:31.71 with Douglas Kittrells Jr., Daylin Ford, Raphael, and Horace.
Southern captured the 3,200 relay with Payne Collins, Isaac Horner, Keegan White, and Jacob Kronberg in 8:53.12.
Hutner Lubitz of Williams was the lone boys’ pole vaulter, clearing 9-6.
Southeast’s 119¾ points were tops, with Eastern (97), Southern (94), Williams (92¾), Western (70), Roxboro Person (37½), and Graham (23). Cummings didn’t score with one athlete participating.
Regionals coming
Regional meets are set for Friday or Saturday. The Class 5-A Central Regional will be held Saturday at Southeast, with Eastern as a co-host.
