Burlington’s planning and zoning commission has recommended rezoning for a lot beside Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory on South Church Street in Burlington that will allow the funeral home to expand.
The house on the .27-acre lot along Shannon Drive, which runs beside the main funeral home and behind a parking for the funeral home, will be used for consultations on cremations, a growing area of the funeral home’s business, Eric Rudd, president of the funeral home, explained to the newspaper after the planning board’s approval.
The board voted 6-0 to recommend the rezoning for office and institutional use (limited use) to accommodate the new acreage’s inclusion into the same zoning that applies to other portions of the funeral home’s operations.
There will be no building on the lot, other than to bring the house into compliance with ADA requirements, David Beal, a former planner with the city who now works at Lowe, told the planning board Monday night.
There were no comments from the public. The city council will likely consider the rezoning request at its May 19 meeting, planning director Jamie Lawson said.
