D’anna Cotton excels in Adidas Track Nationals

D’Anna Cotton of Cummings secured All-America status in three events in the Adidas Track Nationals held at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.

Cotton placed in the girls’ long jump, triple jump, and 100-meter hurdles in competition that wrapped up June 16.

Competing in the championship division, Cotton registered a personal-best mark of 19 feet, 4 inches in the long jump for second place. She was third in the triple jump at 40-9.

Cotton’s time of 14.03 seconds was a personal best in the 100 hurdles, putting her fourth.

Cummings teammate Diamond Moore ended up sixth in the long jump at 18-5¾ and she was eighth in the triple jump at 38-7.

Finishers in the top six in each event in the championship division qualified as All-Americans.

In the girls’ Freshman Division, Janay Pegram of Southeast Alamance placed third in the 200 in 24.99 seconds. Pegram was ninth in the 100 in 12.44 seconds.

Also in the Freshman Division, Honesti Trollinger of Cummings was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 15.37 seconds.

In the Middle School Division, Kaili Payne of Hawfields Middle School was the winner in the 100 hurdles in 14.36 seconds. She placed third in the long jump at 16-10.
