A homeless woman from Graham has been arrested after she was allegedly spotted wielding a large knife in front of the local elections office on Saturday morning.
Melissa Marie King ultimately attracted the notice of sheriff’s deputies when she ensconced herself with the said knife in hand outside the headquarters of Alamance County’s board of elections at 115 South Maple Street.
According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, King claimed that she had been using the knife to remove fingernail polish when the deputies confronted her about her suspicious behavior at about 6:40 a.m. The deputies went on to confiscate the knife from the 37-year-old white female. They subsequently took King into custody after they discovered an outstanding order for her arrest on an alleged probation violation.

Once the deputies had King in custody, a routine search reportedly turned up methamphetamine in her possession, leading to a fresh, felony-level charge against her. King also faces two misdemeanor-level violations for the alleged possession of Xanax and drug paraphernalia.
She has been placed under a $40,000 bond since her arrest.
