
Donald Ray Montgomery, 73, of Burlington, NC passed away unexpectedly at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Sherri Redding Montgomery, who survives and son of the late George Winford Montgomery and Alice Leona Phillips Montgomery.
Donald was a retired plumber with UNC at Chapel Hill. His passions were antique cars and muscle cars. When he was young, he had a candy apple red 1969 Ford Torino that he enjoyed racing and working on. In his later days he enjoyed watching the stars through his telescope, watching and collecting horror movies, building model cars, and metal detecting. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include two daughters, Melanie Montgomery of Burlington and Amy Montgomery Poag of Graham; five grandchildren, Nicole Wolfe (John), Brittany Foster (Michael), Jonathan Matherly, Jeremy Williamson, and Aryanna Poag; two great grandchildren, John Peppy McCabe and Aurora-Fay Nichelle McCabe “Rosie”; and best friends since childhood, Howard Whitt (Lisa) of Yanceyville. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Buddy, Billy, Thurman, and Henry.
