The North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced the weekend road closure of U.S. 70 west of downtown Mebane to allow widening the highway as part of the ongoing NC 119 bypass project.
The closure will be along the stretch where a new bridge is being constructed over U.S. 70.
Crews will remove pavement and repave a wider surface while the road is closed to traffic, according to DOT.
The 59-hour closing begins at 7:00 p.m. Friday and will last until 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.
During the 2½-day road closure, drivers will be faced with detours along Moore Road, West Holt Street, and Lake Latham Road.
