The Kernodle Senior Center at 1535 South Mebane Street (pictured on page 1) is one of five sites that will be mobilized for the 2½ week period of early voting ahead of this year’s general election. Eligible voters who want to beat the Election Day rush can also visit Burlington’s Elmira Community Center at 810 Wicker Street, the Graham recreation center at 311 College Street, Elon’s South Gym at 329 South Antioch Avenue, or the Mebane Arts & Community Center at 633 Corregidor Street.
Early voting will take place at all of these sites from Thursday, October 17 through Saturday, November 2 – except on Sunday, October 20. Each of these locations will be open on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. They will also be activated on Saturday, October 19 and Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.; on Sunday, October 27 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.; and on Saturday, November 2 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Residents who visit these sites will not only be able to cast ballots for the general election on November 5; they’ll also have an opportunity to register to vote or update their registrations.
Voters who register and vote during this period will be asked to provide proof of residency in addition to the photo IDs that are now required of all voters in North Carolina.
Unregistered voters will also have to complete applications that the local election office will vet before their names are added to the county’s voter rolls. Voters whose registrations fail to pass muster will also have ballots disqualified.
Same-day registration will not be an option for residents who go to the polls on Tuesday, November 5.
People who vote on that day will also have to visit their home precincts – or else submit provisional ballots, whose eligibility will be determined by the local board of elections after all of the ballots are cast.
