Eastern Alamance’s girls’ cross country team will be in the Class 3-A state championship meet Saturday at Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.
Sophomore Catherine Parker’s third-place finish led the way in last Saturday’s Mideast Regional at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Parker posted a time of 20 minutes, 28.15 seconds for the 3.1-mile race. Freshmen Maddy Loranger (21st, 22:29.54) and Paeton Hamilton (37th, 23:16.26) were the next two Eastern Alamance finishers. The fourth-place team finish got the Eagles into the state meet.
In Class 3-A boys, junior Henri Lanzoni of Williams made the field by placing 21st in 17:42.00 in the regional.
In Class 1-A, River Mill freshman Easton Freeman is entered in the boys’ race and sophomore Saona Wilcox qualified for the girls’ race based on the Mideast Regional, which also was at WakeMed Soccer Park. Freeman was third in the regional in 17:34.68, while Wilcox was 15th in 23:14.03.
Girls’ tennis
Abigail Brown of Williams reached the state tournament in Class 3-A. She fell in the opening round by a 6-0, 6-0 score to Forestview’s Rennie Liu at Burlington Tennis Center. The state champion was Ella Strickler of Carrboro.
