Newly-hired North Carolina State men’s basketball coach Justin Gainey is a former assistant coach at Elon.
Gainey was on the Elon staff under former head coach Matt Matheny for the 2009-10 season before moving on to join Appalachian State’s staff.

Gainey, a former N.C. State player, was most recently an assistant coach at Tennessee, which lost in Sunday’s Midwest Regional final to Michigan in Chicago.
Gainey takes the position held for one season by Will Wade, who departed N.C. State last week to return to the coaching position at LSU.
